When you need help, where is your focus? Is it on the problem, or on the Lord?
A Devotional Meditation on Psalm 121:1-2:
I lift my eyes to the mountains–where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.Psalm 121:1-2
I love the imagery of this verse, and strong images always help me when I’m meditating. This verse helps me envision “focus,” though I’m sure that’s because of the season of life I’m in. You could just as easily rest on this imagery in times of trouble, or to help you keep the majesty of God in perspective.
Isn’t that the beauty of scripture and meditation? It may only be one word from God, but it can permeate all aspects of your life. Enjoy your time with the Lord this week, and let me know what He says to you.
Below is a look at my dialogue with the Holy Spirit while meditating on this passage. This is just a model to get you started. I lift my eyes to the mountains: I picture myself turning my eyes upward. My focus shifts to higher things. I look and search for the Lord in His temple. The world around me becomes quiet and blurred as my attention focuses on God.
where does my help come from?: Who is it that will answer? What does this realigning of my gaze say about where my trust is?
My help comes from the Lord,: I picture His light coming down from the mountains. It’s His power that is reaching out to me in my time of need.
the Maker of heaven and earth: The power I receive is the greatest in the universe. I’m humbled, thankful, confident as I receive His help.
