A Meditation on Opening Our Ears
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens my ear
To hear as the learned.
The Lord God has opened My ear;
And I was not rebellious,
Nor did I turn away.
This verse comes to me on the mornings I’m struggling to get out of bed, but it’s applications are endless. Who am I to deny His calling?
Here’s a look at my dialogue with the Holy Spirit while meditating on this passage. This is just a model to get you started. Meditating on scripture is a very personal journey and relationship with God, but you may find my Meditation Guide helpful. Follow His prompting.
He awakens Me morning by morning, — He is calling. He calls me every day, repeatedly. There is no end to His calling of me. Every morning is a fresh day, and even before I open my eyes, the Lord is waiting for me.
He awakens my ear — He brings my ear, my understanding, out of sleep. What parts of my life need awakening? What truth is the Lord trying to wake me up to?
To hear as the learned. — I can hear and understand just as the learned do. The Lord longs to teach me, impart wisdom, guide me, just as much as He does anyone else. I am one of the Lord’s own students. I am chosen to hear.
The Lord God has opened My ear; — He has so much to teach and share with me. He brings knowledge to me through the Holy Spirit. It is his own power that opens my ear. I am thankful for being taught. I am thankful for this gift.
And I was not rebellious, — I submit to the lessons of the Lord. What part of me wants to rebel? What part doesn’t want to learn?
Nor did I turn away. — I walk out the lessons He teaches me. Are there times I’ve turned away? Do I need to confess and return to Him?

We are called to meditate on scripture throughout the day, so to help all of us, I post a daily reminder in my Facebook Group. It even includes the weekly scripture for easy reflection.
If you haven’t already signed up for my weekly Newsletter, please do! That way, you’ll never miss the weekly meditation, and you also get my reflections on the past week, unpublished ramblings from my life and usually a link relating to topics we’re discussing (music, videos, other blogs, etc).
