A Meditation on His New Creation

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has died; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Have you ever stopped and thought about what it is to be a new creation? Really thought about it? Paul tells us here in 2 Corinthians that we are completely new in Christ.

This is a verse I’ve heard so often, that I’ve started taking it for granted. Do you ever do that? Have you ever lost the fresh awe of the power of God’s truth?

Let’s take some time this week to bask in the truth of who we are in Christ. Allow it to pour out of you and into your daily interactions with others, how you see yourself, and how you chose to live.

Suggested Meditation

Here’s a look at my dialogue with the Holy Spirit while meditating on this passage. This is just a model to get you started. Meditating on scripture is a very personal journey and relationship with God, but you may find my Meditation Guide helpful. Follow His prompting.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, — I picture myself being “in” Christ. Being in union with him. Abiding in him. I am quiet in his presence, and am thankful for his sacrifice.

he is a new creation. — The Lord has recreated and restarted me. This side of my life is completely different from the side that existed before I was in Christ. I’m quiet and reflect on this “newness”. On this new state of being. I praise the Lord for the power of becoming new in Christ and being reconciled to God.

The old has died; — My old self has not been transformed or improved — it is dead. I reflect on the love of the Lord. I am quiet while worshiping God.

Behold, — Stop and look. I am being announced to the world. The Lord presents those in Christ afresh. I am quiet while picturing the Lord presenting His new creations with pleasure.

the new has come. — I am completely new in Christ. The Lord presents me to the world as a new creation. He clothed me in His glory and righteousness. There is nothing to go back to — it is dead. This is me now. My newness humbles me, and I am thankful to the Lord. I am quiet with my new identity in Him.
